This recipe is a take on other pie recipes in the Dan River Inc Family Cookbook, published while the textile company was in still in operation in Danville, Virginia.
“This is one of the things I love my mom to cook for me. I got her to make this for you all [at the community discussion series in the summer of 2018]. My mom didn’t work so she always had something good. “
Clear winner here for the coconut pie recipe marked “this one.” This page is from the Dan River Inc Family Cookbook, published while the textile company was in still in operation in Danville, Virginia.
Recipe: 1 head of cabbage, shredded; 1 turkey polish sausage, cut up in pieces; add 3tbs olive oil, cook until tender in a 2 or 3 quart pot.
“This is a quick recipe that my mom Alice Luck fixed with buttered cornbread. We spent many hours around the kitchen table, talking about family, friends, and community.”
Recipe: 1 can whole kernel corn; 1 can cream of corn; 1/2 stick butter; 2 eggs; 2tbls cornstarch; 1 can carnation evaporated milk; 2 tbls vanilla flavoring; 1 tbls lemon flavoring. Mix all ingredients, spray pyrex dish with pam; cook for 35 minutes on 350 F or until golden brown on top.
